Baby Boy's Modern Nursery Reveal

In true 3rd child fashion, we finally finished Graham's nursery the week AFTER he was born. But what a little labor of love this room is and we had so much fun creating space in our hearts and home for him before he arrived. With modern furniture and a slight nod to the concept of day&night, this is the space we created for him.

As a designer, I usually find one piece that really inspires me for a room and then build from there. In the case of Graham's nursery, it was definitely this NurseryWorks Sleepytime Rocker from buybuy BABY.

So I made a mood board concept to help me stay focused on the style for his room.

This rocker is the perfect shade of gray and wide enough for me to sit anyway I want comfortably to nurse with a modern frame and beautiful wooden legs for rocking, this was the piece of furniture I knew I would use the most.

I logged many hours in this chair before he arrived and so many more in his few short weeks of life already and can say for sure, we made a good choice with this rocker.

Situating it right next to the window also made it a perfect afternoon spot on sunny days which has helped us during these long winter days so far.

So once I had settled on the rocker, I chose other furniture for the room that would complement this style. A modern nursery with personal touches is what I was going for. So this dresser from buybuy BABY was just the ticket. Super solidly built with big drawers and a slow-close feature make for minimal banging around in the middle of the night. The leather pulls and the brass capped feet added the perfect amount of flair.

We have been so pleased with how much we can store in this dresser which is important when the room itself is small.

And wide enough to double as a changing station, it helped us need one less piece of furniture.

We store all his diapers and wipes in the top drawer for easy access changing him.

And tiny folded clothes with room to spare.

For the other aspects of the room, we tried to use a lot of what we already owned. We took the mirror from our room and did some swapping around so that we could add it to his room. We think it helps make the room look bigger.

One of my favorite inexpensive decor options for kids rooms is using books to decorate.

They are the perfect way to add a pop of color and also add great functionality for easy access to start reading to your babies from a young age!

I had seen several people use the Ikea spice racks as book shelves and wanted a longer option so my dad helped me custom build these book racks.

My favorite place to find used kids books: Amazon, Ebay and thrift stores

They are also great to add in personal touches like little cards or animals. We found this cute wooden camera at Shop Bitte.

Another set of shelves for artwork and small decorative items helped us make this space more personalized.

A brass bunny bookend from his grandparents, a custom night sky embroidery with his name by YorkPack, a handprinted rainbow and other thrifted treasures by me helped to make this room special and specific to him.

The black and white domino art from Minted and the "I love you" print from Give with Joy felt perfect for this space. Along with the reminder "You were built for this" from Magnolia. // Yellow wooden logging truck and mini panda bear from Shop Bitte.

A dad and his son stargazing illustration was taken from a vintage book. This is a great way to find unique art.

I wanted to keep the other side of his room more simple since the shelves were busy on the other side of the room.

I did a quick rainbow art painting to help me visualize where my art would go, and ended up loving it so we decided to keep it.

Adding to the day&night theme we found this cute "goodnight" wire sign and thought it would be the perfect saying over his crib.

Obviously the other most important piece of furniture in a nursery is the crib. This is the Life Crib by Micuna. It has that beautiful, modern feel and converts to a great toddler bed when the time is right.

We love that it's curved lines add a bit of softness and it's frame is striking enough that you don't need a crib skirt.

The other thing I like to do when creating a space and look to things I already own. I took this half ladder and pom basket from my living room to use in here instead.
