Stairway Upgrade

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

When we first moved into our house, one of the first things we did was rip out all the old carpet and redo the flooring on the entire second floor. The only piece of carpet we decided to leave was the stairway runner because of having little boys and we weren't sure what all would go into replacing it.

Fast forward 4 years and we've made so many upgrades to the house that the old carpet on the stairs sticks out like a sore thumb in our home now. And we are ready to tackle this project ourselves!

We partnered with Annie Selke to choose a new runner and chose this Melange Stripe runner in gray/black. We could not be happier with how beautiful and soft it is and how well it fits the style and character of our home!

We were a bit nervous to tackle this project having never done it before, but it was surprisingly easier than we anticipated. It's one of those projects that can be a quick weekend project and makes a huge difference. Especially in our house where our stairs are the focal point in our main living area.

Check out this video of our process:

We basically followed the how-to advice we found on Annie Selke's website. And then because of the nature of our curved stairway and the striped runner we chose, we decided to leave our landing carpet-free and we love the look of it!

What a difference this small upgrade made in the entire look of our home. If you're toying with the idea of adding/replacing a stair runner in your own home, we highly recommend it!
